I will be going back to Cebu City later this year and I will give more up to date information at that time about the hotels in Cebu Philippines and the current Cebu City hotel rates. But, let me just start this page by giving a little info about the places in The Philippines where I’ve stayed at in the past.
Many things have changed since I first went to Cebu City back in September 1997. At the time I stood at a (now closed for quite a while) nice mid-range hotel called The Acropolis, which was located at the intersection of Guadalupe and V Rama. Back then you were able to find a decent hotel for a very cheap rate. It was possible to find some pretty nice places for only about $20 US a night. Sometimes even less.
But, due to the devaluation of the dollar and the increased tourism to the Philippines from travelers worldwide as more and more people find out about it as being a great vacation destination, the rates for hotels (and everything else) has gone up. There are still a few places that you can stay on the cheap. But, those are mostly no-frills places that would probably only appeal to the more adventurous travelers.
At this time, Cebu is still a good value vacation. Your money will still go much farther here than many other places. Just not as far as it did years ago.
After The Acropolis closed I spent my time at a few other budget hotels in Cebu such as The Cebu View Tourist Inn on Sanciangko Street or the Fuente Pension House on Don Julio Llorente Street. Other times, when I had the money I would instead stay at the more lavish Cebu Plaza Hotel in Nivel Hills (Now called The Marco Polo Plaza).
The one Cebu hotel which I have pretty much settled into as my second home is the Holiday Plaza Hotel on F. Ramos. When I first began staying here the nightly rates were very reasonable in comparison to other places and the hotel was one of the best mid range places to stay. As of my most recent stay of October 2014, I did find a few other hotels that seemed to be a bit more up to date and were competitively priced.
But, I have a strong affection to Holiday Plaza and will most likely stay there again and I do recommend it highly. The friendly staff have become almost like family to me who always greet me with a handshake and a hug when I return. It means a lot to me to see a familiar, smiling face when I’m that far away from home. Also, Holiday Plaza is in a great location right within walking distance of Robinsons department store, the Abuhan Dos Restaurant, Bo’s Coffee Shop and other places to eat at Fuente Osmeña Circle as well as many of the nightclubs and bars on Mango Ave.
You have two good restaurants right in Holiday Plaza Hotel as well. There’s Platters right in the first floor next to the lobby where they have a daily breakfast buffet and the very nice Sinugba Bai Rooftop Grill.
I will be heading back out to Cebu later this year so I will give more up to date information on Holiday Plaza as well as other hotels with pictures and their rates at that time.
